A WHITBY woman has paid tribute to the Whitby Gazette for help in dealing with a phone company which tried to charge her for a service she was unable to get.
Ada Myers (75), a former Whitby Town Mayor, was talked into signing up for a broadband service with TalkTalk by a doorstep salesman.

But there was a snag – TalkTalk cannot provide the service in Whitby.

Following a story in the Gazette about the trouble Mrs Myers was having with TalkTalk, the company apologised and sent her £50 to cover the cost of a £35 reconnection fee and £15 compensation for the inconvenience she had suffered.

Mrs Myers, who at one point got so upset by the problems she was having with the phone company that she was reduced to tears, said: “I want to thank the Gazette for their help and again warn people to be on their guard about this kind of selling.

“The young salesman who called on me should have been reprimanded because he must have known we can’t get the service in Whitby.”
