THESE shocking pictures show two youths caught in the act of causing £500 damage to a famous Whitby landmark.
These shots were captured by a CCTV camera last month at the floral clock in Pannett Park., but have only just been released by police.

The two youths in distinctive clothing can be seen tampering with the hands of the clock.

The hands, 6ft and 7ft long and weighing a total of 40 kilos, have since had to be taken away to be repaired.

The hands are maintained by Scarborough Council.
Joe Plant, a founder member of the Friends of Pannett Park who helped get the floral clock into the park expressed his disgust at the damage.

"I am very, very disappointed to learn of this vandalism," he told the Whitby Gazette.

"A lot of people put many voluntary hours in to get the clock into Whitby and it is enjoyed by a great many people.

"I hope the people who committed this mindless act are caught quickly."

Whitby police have appealed for anyone who may recognise the pair to come forward.

Sgt Steve Pearse said: "Between midninght and 1am on Sunday 1 June these two youths were caught on CCTV causing damage to the floral clock situated adjacent to Chubb Hill Road in Whitby.

"The images clearly show two youths at the scene and police are asking for anyone who recognises the people shown in the picture, possibly by the clothing they are wearing, which is quite distinctive, to contact PC 1948 Becky Laylor on (0845) 6060247."

If you want to know the time ask a policeman!!!
perhaps the lads could not find a policeman to ask the time, as Whitby only has virtual police officers.

A crime being committed on CCTV or was it just a virtual crime.

You can now have your say on virtual crime at a virtual police meeting, with a virtual police officer and you can do it virtually any time.
I have now honestly seen it all, I do not believe, so could it be a virtual figment of my imagination?.

The wife has just pointed out to me this may be the start of whole new virtual government concept to save money.

In years to come will we be visiting a virtual GPs surgery, a virtual hospital, going to virtual schools.

As a lot of people are now living on virtually nothing will they get virtual benefits.

The good things to come out of it of course would be a virtual goverment and a virtual council as the present lot seem to already virtually live in cyber space and not on this planet.

Virtual policing, the mind boggles, I wonder if we will get some virtual prisons for the virtual criminals who are virtually taking over the virtual town.
What is the point of having CCTV when it is never manned, if the CCTV Monitors were monitored 24/7 the virtual idiots who were trying to virtually destroy the floral clock would have been apprehended at the time.
Virtual Policing! Yes another gimmick.

Hmmm. Healthy cynicism is all well and good, but at the end of the day, the virtual forum is not just a gimmick, but a genuine attempt by the police to reach a new audience.
As Insp Barf has said, only 13 people turned up at the last two forum meetings, so why not try and reach people a different way?
There are often complaints about how difficult it is to reach police bosses - here is a chance to put questions directly to the top man at Whitby.
And the inspector has stressed that this is an extra tool rather than a replacement for the meeting.
I hope to see James and Castle Crusader at the virtual forum on Wednesday night. Watch out for the links on our home page and from the Police Beat section.
