WHITBY Town held their first pre-season training session on Tuesday night and manager Phil Brumwell is delighted at how things are shaping up.
With players in action after their summer break, including some new signings, thoughts are firmly fixed on the new season following the FA Cup and FA Trophy draws earlier this week.
Manager Brumwell said: "We had a fantastic night's training and all
the lads have come in having looked after themselves really well over the summer.
"Everyone's ready to go already and Graeme (Clark) and I are tremendously happy.
"Graeme himself has done a fantastic job for me while I have been on holiday as we had a list of players we wanted to get.
"He's pestered them and chased them and he's got all the players we really wanted."
Those new faces include Craig Bishop – a highly rated left back from Spennymoor who won a handful of end-of-season awards.
Central midfielder Steve Huggins has also signed up from Billingham Town having starred for a number of seasons in the Northern League – work commitments previously scuppering hopes playing at a higher level.
Tony Hackworth has also re-signed, Lee Nogan has put off hanging up his boots for another season and Michael Wray – a forward released by Hartlepool – is also training with the Blues.
They all join big signed Mark Tinkler whose efforts have delighted Brumwell.
"We all know what Mark can do but he is really going to add something to the midfield.
"The chairman (Graham Manser) and the club have really backed us and showed ambition and everyone is really excited about the coming season.
"The work that goes on behind the scenes at the club is unbelievable – we all want to get started."
The Blues have been handed two home ties – on 15 September, in the FA Cup, Whitby will play either Dunston Federation or Tadcaster Albion or Harrogate Railway and in the FA Trophy, Whitby will host either Trafford or Rossendale United.
