CAEDMON'S under 13 boys' hockey team emerged victorious, representing the borough in the recent youth games at Ampleforth.
Caedmon had a number of absences from their normal team and on the day only four out of seven turned out.
The organisers gave the school permission to use three spare girls for the girls' U13 team so the tournament could go ahead without a redraw.
So the mixed team played against all-boys teams with the following results:
v Ryedale, won 1-0, goal scored by Jacob Randell
v York, drew 1-1 goal scored by Beth Mead
v Richmond, drew 0-0
v Craven, won 3-0, goals scored by Jacob Randell (2) and Jordan Spencer
v Hambleton, drew 1-1, goal scored by Beth Mead
Jacob Randell led by example, playing a magnificent game in midfield and working against all teams played.
Combining and supporting the girls Jacob Randell, Joe Hogarth, Kieran Hill and goalkeeper Joshua Walker played an excellent game, frustrating the attack of the other teams.
There were third places in the youth games for Caedmon U13 in the girls' hockey and for Airy Hill Primary School in the years five and six gymnastics.
