Whitby Ladies Hockey team met Stockton at home for their first match of the season.
Fitness and skill training for six weeks paid off with Whitby dominating from the start.

The game flowed with attack and midfield on top form.

Some skilful play between Jessie Purvis, Nicola Kent and Beth Grason ensured the attack was very diff
icult to break down.

At half-time the score was 5-0 with Kent and Jessie Purvis scoring twice with another from Beth Grason.

The midfield and defensive play quickly cleaned up any Stockton runs with Jo Braithwaite and Vicky Annis forming a solid wall as well as supporting the attack.

Any loose balls were quickly turned round by Mags White and Alex Bagnall.

Whitby produced some excellent hockey, enjoyed by the supporting crowd, and a brace from Hope Rodgers and Vicky Annis completed a 7-0 win.

Player of the match: Jess Purvis

Whitby then travelled to Roseberry where they once again took lead.

The attackers were unstoppable, bombarding the Roseberry defence with Whitby standing out with several textbook passes and moves.

Possession was total, cutting out any attacking play for Roseberry.

The first three goals came from lifted and aerial balls from the sticks of Nicola Kent (2), Jo Braithwaite (2) and Hope Rodgers (3) – half-time score 7-0.

The second half saw Whitby re-position a few players to give the lead runners a break.

This resulted in two goals from Beth Grason, one from Lisa Mussett and one from Karen Sanderson.

An easy game for Whitby, but good practice for future games to come which will hopefully herald more competitive matches.

Final score 11-1.

Player of the match: Nicola Kent
