WHITBY batsman Adam Lyth says it is "a dream come true" to play for Yorkshire at the 122nd annual cricket festival in Scarborough.
And he could be batting at North Marine Road alongside former England captain Michael Vaughan who will play in the Tykes' final few LV County Championship games of the season.
Lyth, a former England U19 international of Starbeck Close, said before the festival: "It would be a magnificent experience to play on my home ground and a dream come true.
"To play at Scarborough for Yorkshire will be an honour and I just hope that I get picked.
"Michael Vaughan is going to play in the county championship games and that includes the matches against Kent, Sussex and Somerset which are all at North Marine Road.
"He is a tremendous player and it would be awesome to line up alongside him and hopefully get a few runs.
"Lots of my family and friends will be at the games so I want to try and do well in front of them.
"I grew up watching the festivals and they produce a special atmosphere.
"These are important games for the club because we have not secured our position in the top division yet so need some points."
The festival began well for Yorkshire on Monday as they beat Kent by seven wickets in the NatWest Pro 40, although Lyth did not bat.
But he did get a chance to shine in the Tykes' four-day LV County Championship first division clash with Kent which started on Wednesday.
Lyth has been in fine form for Yorkshire since breaking into the first team, scoring his maiden first-class county century with a cultured 132 at Nottinghamshire's Trent Bridge.
Lyth added: "Things have been going well, I am enjoying my cricket.
"The lads are a great bunch and it is a privilege to play for my county alongside the likes of Michael Vaughan, Darren Gough and Anthony McGrath.
"I will just be keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is fine and that I am selected.
"The county game is against Kent who, like ourselves, are struggling at the wrong end of the table so we know we have to try and get something from that game.
"I imagine with Vaughan playing it will add a few extra numbers, so hopefully everyone will enjoy the festival."
And Lyth was in the thick of the action on the first day.
He was the pick of the Yorkshire fielders and much to the delight of family and friends, he superbly ran out Ryan McLaren as the Tykes bowled out Kent for 227.
At the time of going to press yesterday, Yorkshire, having started at 85/2 overnight, were going well at 149/2 with Lyth due to be the next batsman in.
The Yorkshire v Kent game concludes tomorrow, while the Tykes take on Glamorgan in the NatWest Pro 40 on Sunday.
