WHITBY motor racer Edwin Jowsey was denied an eighth consecutive win this season after thieves stole a download cable from his car on Sunday.
Edwin was competing in the F3 race at Brands Hatch when the sneaky theft occurred.
The download cable is plugged into a computer to analyse and fine-tune the race car engine to temperatures and atmospheric pressures.
The chief mechanic was on holiday which meant Edwin was at a disadvantage by not having the car exactly tuned for the race.
To compound things, Edwin's car is also an older model than the others, with an old-style five speed gear box which stops the left foot from braking by the way it is built.
Newer cars have six speed sequential gear box for a quicker change.
Without a fast lap time in qualifying, Edwin only started second on the grid.
Despite this, he got off to a fast start and took the lead by the first bend.
But just to cap a miserable day, Edwin was overtaken and had his front wing knocked off, meaning he had to run with the wing flapping.
He still went on to lead the race for the first five laps but his car was then barged in the middle on a sharp bend and he spun off, unable to get back in the lead.
Edwin eventually finished the race in second place. Anyone interested in sponsoring Edwin can contact sponsorship manager Nick Henderson on (08712) 111012 or email sponsorship@team-jowsey.co.uk
