THE Whitby and District Junior Tennis Tournament was held on the combined courts of Caedmon and Eskdale schools.
Generously sponsored, by Pykes Sports Ltd, Whitby and the YLTA youngsters took part in round robin format competitions where possible.
Umpires were provided by Danby, Eskdale and Whitby tennis clubs and their help was much appreciated by tournament
referee Wendy Hurworth.
Tennis coaches Zoe Hurworth and Steve Moore organised the games at the two venues and all enjoyed the good weather and high standard matches.
Many of the children were taking part in their first outdoor tournament and acquitted themselves well.
Results: U10 girls' winner Emily Dowson r/up Jasmine Davy, U10 boys' winner Christopher Hurworth, r/up Findlay Morris, U12 girls' winner Jade McCourt r/up Sarah Farmer, U12 boys' winner Robbie Hurworth r/up Benedict Millson, U14 girls' winner Bethany Sanderson r/up Lindsay Barleycorn, U14 boys' winner Thomas Donald, r/up Kai Morris, U16 girls Monica Barleycorn, U16 Boys winner Sam Brettle r/up Robin Barleycorn.
Throughout the season there are junior programmes at the tennis clubs and within the Whitby Community Tennis Programme.
Indoor coaching at Whitby Leisure Centre will restart in the autumn term and letters and posters will be sent to the schools next month about this and any other coaching opportunities.
For any information regarding tennis in the Whitby area, contact Wendy Hurworth on (01947) 601143.
