THE rain kept away from Whitby's revised track last Sunday for this season's second Whitby Motocross Club event at the Skelder Bank circuit which will soon host British 2stroke championship round five.
Alex Wilson (Honda 450) led from start to finish in the expert 1 class but hot on his heels was Barry Turnbull who kept Alex on the gas until the chequered flag.
Then Karl Schulze and Christian Muir powered home with Carlton Husband (YZF250) close by in fifth – an excellent result for Carlton who, at 16, is a name to watch out for.
Expert two and three got away in similar fashion with Alex grabbing the holeshot and Barry chasing.
The pair blitzed the field and the crowd didn't need the Red Arrows to have an aerobatic treat as the leading riders soared off the jumps with Alex having to work hard to get the hat-trick.
In the B class, first blood went to Ross Schindler (YZF250) who also won the B3 but dropped to 15th in the second moto and finished second in class which was won by Teessider Martyn Dawson jnr.
In the first C class (junior inter) John Winton had a consistently good ride with three comfortable wins, leaving Matt Colwill and Matt Stroud to battle it out for second and third.
The second C class (junior clubmen) saw two promising young newcomers, local trials rider Karl Kirkbride got three holeshots and three wins on his RMZ250 and looked pleased to have left his GasGas at home.
Tom Ramsey followed home with three good second places.
Expert final was a ding-dong between Barry Turnbull, Howard Rodney, Richard Collins and Chris Muir and could have gone any way but Barry kept the steam on to win followed by Howard, Richard and Chris.
The junior final was led from the start by local rider Brian Gallon who looked good until Craig Hancock reeled him in and passed him in the final few yards, proving that good racing can be had in the lesser classes.
It was a belter of a day with few bumps, a great track with a few tweaks and little dust thanks to the watering system and the hard work of the Whitby stalwarts.
The next club meeting is Sunday 3 August.
