A MAN has died following a collision on the A171 Whitby to Scarborough Road this morning (Friday).

The accident happened at 9.40am and involved two vehicles, a Toyota Celica and a Mitsubushi which collided between Pond Hill and Boggle Hole.

The man, who is believed to be from the Humberside area, driving the Toyota was taken to Scarborough Hospital by ambulance but later died.

Police could not confirm he died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The female driver and passenger in the Mitsubushi were both uninjured.

The A171 road was closed between the Boggle Hole turn off and the B1416 Ruswarp turn off.

A police spokesman said the road was eventually re-opened at 12.45pm.
