EGTON Show – the largest traditional horse and agricultural show in the region – pulled in around 5,000 wellie wearing showgoers on Wednesday.
Despite the rain holding off the showfield was still turned into a mud bath but it didn't stop visitors enjoying the sheep dog trials, animal classes and displays in the main ring.
Tractor drivers were on hand though to pull almost every vehicle off the showground and those who may have become stuck in the car park.
Entries were well up particularly in the sheep classes, handicrafts and produce, heavy livestock and fur and feather classes with entries from across the north of England.
However, the goat section had to be cancelled this year due to blue tongue restrictions.
Savannah Hall from Sleights scooped a new award of trophy for best young handler in the Shire Horse classes.
Another amazed winner was 15-year-old Christina Baker from Fryup whose 17-year-old long haired dachsund Digger scooped first prize in the veteran pedigree category.
She took him in when his 93-year-old owner died and despite never being in the show ring before took to it like a duck to water to wow the judges.
