FILMING took place yesterday in Whitby on the multi-million pound American TV show Robinson Crusoe.
Scenes for the £17m adaptation of Daniel Defoe's novel were shot on board the Grand Turk and at Whitby Abbey.

It was anticipated just one day's filming would be needed in the town before the production shifted to York.

The Whitby Gazette understands none of the stars of the joint NBC and Power Studios International production were in Whitby.

The classic novel is to be turned into a 13-part series which will be a "landmark piece of event television," according to Power's founder, Justin Bodle.

Crusoe will be played by American actor Philip Winchester and the part of his wife by Anna Watson.
