IN its 148-year history Danby Show has never been cancelled and on Wednesday the show stayed true to its spirit despite the showfield and nearby fields being turned into a quagmire.
But despite the mud, the show was a success according to chairman Shaun Dowson with more than 3,000 people spilling through the gates which was down on last year.

He said: "We're pleased with the way it went.

"It could have been worse, it could have been raining all day."

Cattle entries were up this year but sheep entries were down due to blue tongue disease in other parts of the country.

Entries in the horticulture classes were also down, however, last year they had been up considerably.
