AROUND 10,000 people flocked in to enjoy Whitby Regatta, despite rain showers and changeable weather.
The town and West Cliff have been bustling with people enjoying the attractions on the West Cliff, the Regatta Parade, stalls and fun fair which arrived late on Sunday night.
The weather has been mixed with glorious sunshine and heavy showers on each of the three days doing little to deter everyone.
The warm weather may account for the number of incidents dealt with by St John Ambulance – on Saturday they assisted 14 patients, some of whom were complaining of chest pains.
Speaking on Sunday afternoon, Linda Haw (55) of St John Ambulance said they had dealt with two 999 calls and have been "very busy".
Ivor Greer, vice president of Whitby Regatta, said: "The weather has been kind to us and the number of people turning up for the event is tremendous.
"The Regatta is a lovely community thing and it gives people the feel good factor. With all the doom and gloom around it's nice we can put on a family show."
Around 20 police officers have been patrolling the town on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, with more officers set to come in yesterday when a dispersal order came into effect to prevent a repeat of last year's drunken violence on the Monday.
It gives police the power to move on people gathering in groups from the area for 24 hours. If they return they will be arrested.
Inspector Dave Barf of Whitby Police said there had been just one arrest over the weekend, on Khyber Pass after a man was caught being drunk and disorderly at 1am yesterday morning.
Police filmed the man, who is not thought to be local, with video cameras on their head gear.
Speaking as the Whitby Gazette went to press yesterday Insp Barf said: "So far it's been a decent party atmosphere. We've only had a handful of incidents.
"The only other thing we had was somebody allegedly running over a car at the Buck Inn at 11.30pm on Sunday.
That was sorted amicably.
"I'm led to believe it's a bit thinner on the ground than previous years.
"It's been quiet for a weekend."
Insp Barf added he was mindful Regatta Monday might be different and said this year they have altered staffing arrangements and have more police to prevent a repeat of last year.
Mr Greer said there had been just one mishap on Sunday night when two parked cars, one of which is believed to have belonged to a local, obstructed Khyber Pass as the fair wound its way down the pier.
The matter was resolved when the fair workers physically moved the cars out of the way, delaying their arrival by 90 minutes.
